Research:Mobile Strategy Research/USA/Notes/092302
- travel for work. 1ce a month. international work.
- roommate
- local news, twitter, couple blogs, weather. deals websites.
- sf gate - comments are the best. "looks like they wrote the article on the golf course on their iphone".
technology[edit]
- work tech is crappy. no wifi. phone or work computer.
- home desktop, wifi,
- computer: netflix, streaming video, youtube, work at home. (also watches from ipad)
- ipad: netflix, hulu, comcast. quick and easy. looks at content offline. no bootup. flipboard. read it later. travel, when i'm watching tv, in the evening.
- economist app: downloads the whole magazine onto your ipad. app tells me that i have a new magazine, it arrives before the paper version. i've tried to cancel the paper version.
- my friend said there is an app for the economist. yeah there's an app for everything but it's just amazing. i don't have to go out searching for it.
- laptop:
- google searches, wikipedia of course comes
wikipedia[edit]
- general overview of what i'm looking for
- search - stickies example - can't google something on the flight.
- table of contents - jump to different sections
- pictures but pretty minimal - option for no graphics? while in africa. they charge a hefty amount for internet by the minute. downloading all of those pictures on a slow internet speed is bad.
- when i go to wikipedia i know what i'm looking for. i don't go there looking for the weather.
contributor[edit]
- travel - flyertalk 2003. 1/2 post per day on average. anywhere i can get access to the internet. i have a routine in the morning and flyertalk is part of it. fatwallet is too.
- tripadvisor, senior contributor. past few years.
- i will travel just to get the mileage runners
- 23 hotel reviews - i'm a senior contributor....those things don't mean anything. but maybe they do.
- ratings - give credit.
- after checkout. share that so people can enjoy. bad experiences...hotel manager. wasn't the intent, but i wanted people to be aware.
- i make it a priority - unpack, write the review.
- i think the type of stuff i would contribute isn't appropriate for wikipedia (talking about opinion and travel) - non encyclopedic content.
mobile phone[edit]
- twitter - used to go to the site. would go to the mobile site...i think the page told me that they had an app.
- anywhere there is 5 or 10 seconds to spare. in the elevator, on the bus, it's always with me.
- travel - first thing i pull out. internet at the airport. strictly wifi.
- facebook lockdown, i'll do checkins for deals (starwood hotels), i'll comment, usually reposting music videos, news articles, pictures, post on other peoples walls.
- love the feature to repost - share it and they get credit.
- shared interest - there are two of us in this group of friends that had an interest in this article.
- email tweets - works offline - goes in a queue.
- when i think of twitter, i think of realtime.
- INVITATION TO READ/CONTRIBUTE TO TWITTER ON RECENT POPULAR TOPICS.
- "looks like they wrote the article on the golf course on their iphone".
- wiki page i'm familiar with - sfo int'l airport. it's definitely collapsed a lot. it's all the same content. this is an example of where having too many picutres...
- the fact that i'm accessing it from my iphone means i'm looking for a really quick piece of information.
- start page - overwhelming. (you tube - things you might be interested in).
- on the go - specific purpose in mind - i don't mine being sidetracked. especially if it's based on what i've looked at before.
activities + content[edit]
- wikisquared app - queue things up, look at history. updates search results.
follow up[edit]
- when queue offline
- phone generals - why this phone, plan, international plans?
- did you pay for wikisquared - how did you choose wikisquared: not the first. it was free. bad reviews, didn't get it.
- hypothetical - synch between ipad content and iphone content
brennan[edit]
- check video quality
- double check addresses
