  • So we did a study
    • Randomly sampled the first edits of newcomers since the beginning of Wikipedia
    • Hand categorized (screenshot of newbie coding tool) the edits of 2100 users.
  • We found that (Somehow wrap three plots into something that can fit in a blog post)
    • Newbie quality hasn't substantially decreased since 2006 (before the decline)
    • But we do see rejection rates for good-faith newcomers rising
    • We also see a dramatic decline in productive newcomer retention at the beginning of 2007.
