From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Prototyping process (track a & b)

  • ~120 affiliates
  • Stewards could be on-wiki ambassadors
  • Questions (define the movement) - help to establish the "bigger we" and also confirm our thinking about who's in the movement
  • Regional groups are asked to help reach ppl for track b, but also invited to participate on track a
  • Tool kits
    • Framing & questions
    • Ideas for engaging communities
    • Instructions for reporting
  • Two rounds of "feedback loops" one at berlin and one 1.5 months before wikimania (may15-june1)
  • Ensure we have liaisons
  • When we do final recommendations, warnings to mitigate risk

Next steps

Shannon and Suzie to draft up descriptive visual for discussion tomorrow morning

Track C

  • C1 (existing users) & C2 (experts/academics/partners)

Goals

  • Understand goals and needs of new and existing readers and partners in mature markets. Why do they use the product and what do they want? So we can feed back knowledge into other tracks.
  • Pipeline to editors? Awareness?
  • Understanding trends in knowledge & tech in mature markets and how does wikipedia stay relevant and impactful
  • Relationship building & content
  • Cross expert-reader discussion?
  • Audiences: new and existing readers, partners?, experts/academics
  • Partners, existing and like-minded partners
  • Next steps (overview of the work)
  • Expert symposium? Someone to give cliffs notes? Or we can start this movement building that starts to invite in the 'bigger we' and can grow on its own. Online summit this year? Do we have smaller scale convos in the near term and do the summit later (and maybe fall), could do at least half-day virtual conference
  • Mapping of audiences/stakeholders to consider here
  • Resources?

Other

  • Review of key metrics (2010) - may be reviving/creating meaningful metrics - maybe cycle 2 convo
    • Editors
    • Readers
    • Operational health? (revenue/staff)
    • Health (customer, employee satisfaction) Proxies: retention rates, lifetime of editor cycle
    • Segmentation (psychographic)
    • Increase kindness
    • Livelihoods in global south
    • Paid contribution to references, that can further the content on wikipedia
