Request for clarification[edit]

In "Whom to talk to", I don't understand whether the first sentence means (1) "many Japanese wikipedians speak English" or (2), the opposite, "few wikipedians". In case (1), I suggest rewording to "quite a few". If case (2), I suggest writing "very few".

日本語版？[edit]

Perhaps it would be a good idea to create a Japanese translation of this page, and to indicate, on each version, where the other version can be found. This would help ensure that Wikipedians who can read Japanese but not English and those who can read English but not Japanese (and those who are stronger in one than the other) have the same understanding of the Japanese Wikipedia.

I am actually moved to make this suggestion because my own short personal experience has made me feel very unwelcome on the Japanese Wikipedia. (I am user 'QE2' on Japanese Wiki.)

Same to NJT including the particular discussion you mentioned. If you feel you are unwelcome, it may be true, but it is not because you are not competent in Japanese and "not good" at English but you are a POV pusher and demand too many when Japanese Wikipedia editors gave you a compromise which other version Wikipedias have never offered. You could have tried to "correct" English version, but didn't so and try to turn Japanese version to your favorite version instead. If Kliment doesn't welcome you and remove his trust from you, I think I can understand what drove him to that conclusion. --Aphaia 21:34, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the other hand, I have a feeling that some users (not all, mind you!) do not like non-native speakers contributing to the project for the sake of language inability only. Actions by Qe2-san aside, look at some of the comments at ja:Wikipedia:投稿ブロック依頼/Qe2. I see quite radical comments such as "if the user can't speak Japanese, block indefinitely", or am I quoting out of context here? Either way, I'm not sure if the statement "Your contribution to the Japanese Wikipedia is always welcome" is entirely true. Thoughts, people? --朝彦 (Asahiko) 02:09, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As, regarding the first "reason", I had, in my final post in my defense, written:

Question[edit]

In "Language" => "Emoticons", there is the following sentence.

"Some of the active users use traditional-style Japanese in writing. But they know and understand the more conventional, modern Japanese that most of you have learned."

I don't understand what is meant by "traditional-style Japanese" and "modern Japanese". Is it 文語体 x 丁寧体? I am really at a loss with this sentence...

Changing a language code from UTF-8 (For IRC server)[edit]

The article states that You have to use the command /charset iso-2022-jp if you want to read Japanese messages on the channel #wikipedia-ja.. But when I use this command I get this reply for server "Unknown command: charset". I use Miranda. Is there another way to change the charset? --Teyandee 16:25, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
