[edit]Thank you for this wish @Song Ngư. Could you tell us how you'd like to use a custom license for UploadWizard? JWheeler-WMF (talk) 15:49, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for reaching out to me, @JWheeler-WMF! We as non-Wikimedia projects uses this to setup an newbie-friendly upload flow usually needs an custom license when the existing licenses can't be properly assigned or the main media sources that are widely used in the wiki actually has a separate policy of using those contents within fan projects. In that case, I found out that the solution that are linked in the extension page isn't elegant enough and are not futureproof, regarding security concerns with our service provider, whiles the second solution (which is recommended at the moment) also require users to put those strings to their MediaWiki:Common.js, which is also annoying since we have to go there and mess with the global code of our wiki. So what we are aiming here is to at least have an elegant way (like a Special page) to setup custom licenses or customize our flow without having to mess with the upstream code too much. Hope that helps! Song Ngư • 🗨️ • 🌐 21:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Song Ngư for the wish. I imagine it has been archived because you limited it to non-Wikimedia projects. Thinking laterally though, it may have Wikimedia specific applications. Perhaps a way for local interface administrators on Wikimedia wikis like Commons to modify ths UploadWizard would be a good idea. My understanding is that currently we have to file a Phabricator task for any change. This would solve your wish for external wikis also.
- On the other hand, perhaps the UploadWizard is so sensitive/complicated that only WMF employees should touch it. I am not sure, but I do know that there are a lot of suggestions here. Commander Keane (talk) 01:28, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
