Talk:Europeana/1914-18/Wikimedia Community Ireland

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Dear WM Community Ireland,
To assist in helping you discover locally-relevant resources in, or local partners to, the Europeana 1914-18 ecosystem, we've compiled this list.

Here is the main portal for the Europeana Collections 1914-1918. You can also access content via the European Film Gateway 1914.

You can find this content, and other materials from Ireland with this pre-filled search in the Europeana 14-18 collection website.
Irish organisations represented in the Europeana Network are:

Irish Architectural Archive; National Library of Ireland; St. Michael's Secondary School; National Archives of Ireland; Trinity College Dublin; Annertech; Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies; Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht; Irish Traditional Music Archive; National Museum of Ireland; Irish Traditional Music Archive; Libraries Development, Local Government Management Agency; Digital Repository of Ireland; University College Cork; Irish Manuscripts Commission; University College Cork; Celtic Roots Studio; Chester Beatty Library; National University of Ireland Galway; Digital Nomad; National Archives of Ireland; Kwetb; Carlow it; Department of Education; Albemarle Public Schools; Transparency International Ireland; Dublin BIC; University College Dublin; Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs; University of Limerick, Glucksman Library; Shinana.

If you would like help contacting these organisations, please write to Ad Pollé or myself.

Moreover, here is some freely available content already online:

  • Content digitised at local collection days (UGC):
  1. Dublin on 21/03/2012 at the National Library: http://www.europeana1914-1918.eu/en/collection/explore/collection_day/DU18
  2. Limerick on 11/05/2012 at The Hunt Museum: http://www.europeana1914-1918.eu/en/collection/explore/collection_day/LI05

Some of this might be appropriate to upload to Wikimedia Commons and use in articles.

Finally, you can also upload/contribute content to the Europeana 1914-18 website, for example by taking a relevant set of multimedia released by one of your local GLAM partners or activities under a free-license/public domain, and re-sharing it. The process for doing this is outlined at http://www.europeana1914-1918.eu/en/contributor

This list supplements the Suggested Activities "for inspiration" & "ready to go projects" already listed on the main project page. I hope it is helpful to you. Any WMCommunity Ireland activity related to the theme (which is a period of time, not a war per-se) can be included in your portfolio, but at least one of the activities must be with a Europeana partner/service. For example organising an editathon with the purpose of adding images to GA.WP already in the Commons Category Europeana_1914-1918 (using the shortlist of images already used in articles on EN.WP) would count.
Sincerely, Wittylama (Europeana) (talk) 12:13, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
