Talk:Fundraising 2007/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Who was the donor behind the $500,000 check?

My understanding of the situation is that this donor asked to remain anonymous and the Foundation wishes to honor that request. Cbrown1023 talk 15:33, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Imagine how many actual people in need that $500,000 could have helped. Instead, it will go toward solidifying the great compendium of Pokemon inventories and Simpsons trivia. No wonder this person demanded anonymity -- it's embarrassing.

Other Goals like raise Awareness[edit]

Very interesting report. As coming from a country where giving donations is not part of our culture and also a bit away from US and en:wp I want to share a reflection on the report. While I understand and agree that the main goal is to raise money, I also see it as a goal to raise awareness of the WMF and what it actually does. And from our country I beleive this effect, to raise awareness, was a more substantial result than any money raised from here by the banner (which I expect was a very small amount). To build awareness, the video and money breakdown were very good and for us the Eedit wikipedia week was also very important, as it raised awareness that something was happening related to the people doing the editing. Thanks for the feedback, Anders. Raising awareness of WMF's charitable status and its activities is definitely one of our organizational goals. Outreach can be completely separate from fundraising -- the Wikipedia academy events WMF and the chapters have set up are an example of that.--Eloquence 23:57, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
