Suggestions[edit]

  • I suppose all the payments will go into WMF directly through the gateway and WMF may pay a conversion charge to provider. I also dont think there are legal issues in making INR payments to third parties(gateway in this case). Its better WMF legal / finance cross check this early.
  • After a chat with zackexley on IRC, we arrived at the current figures of 100,250,500,1000,2000,3000,5000. 10000 was the previous higher number, But I felt it might be too unrealistic in India to expect that, anyway there is a freetext for people who wish!
  • I heard Debit cards will be added soon, have also suggested to ask about netbanking option with the payment gateway, since .
  • Can we also please edit Jimmy's letter / other letters to include "250 Rs" in "This year, please consider making a donation of $5, €10, ¥1000 or whatever you can to protect and sustain Wikipedia." That will be of great help.

  • Also since INR is new this year, can all the banners displayed in India have an additional footer, "we accept donations in INR" on a smaller font ?
Working on something along those lines. Cbarr (WMF) - Production Coodinator 06:32, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • We would also arrange for some press coverage about fundraising in INR soon, may be after the Wiki Conference. Logicwiki 17:44, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since many Indians use networks outside the country and hence might land into US fundraising page, an option to switch currencies to INR manually across fundraising pages will be of great help. Needless to say when currency changes, the relevant amount also need to change. Logicwiki 19:04, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Addressed with changes to "Other ways to give" link Cbarr (WMF) - Production Coodinator 06:32, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Respond to a list with a list :)
  • The localization of the "$5, €10, ¥1000" in appeals is under way.
  • The way to enable currency changing is being looked at.
  • The banner telling you the currency idea is one we hope to test soon.
Thanks for the suggestions

Thank you, Am at awe seeing wmf:Special:FundraiserStatistics and guess we may get over with Fundraising even before some of these changes may happen. Kudos to your team!! Logicwiki 03:36, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We hope so :) The banner with the currency is working its way though the machine as well as the currency changing pages. Cbarr (WMF) - Production Coodinator 08:55, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, we get "We accept in INR now". Debit Cards / Netbanking addition is really required by many folks, and the button text can be replaced,"We accept debit cards / netbanking in INR too". Any particular reason why Karthik Nadar banner isnt up for Indian IPs? Given the fact that globally the responses are good(I follow twitter only, would love to see numbers as well), wouldnt it be a good idea to put his banner to Indian IPs as well ? Payment related queries[edit]

There were few queries that we got on mailing list. Though the mails were forwarded, am putting up the issues here as its central place.

  • CVV code textbox is plain text, should be a password field.
  • VBV / MSC ( en:3-D_Secure ) is not implemented. Apparently Indian regulation is all banks need to make it mandatory. While some relax this for international payments(Thats how I pay GoDaddy), some others are very strict and fail the payments. It might be important to implement this.
  • Debit cards / Netbanking support is being sought after by many people and we keep getting emails on the same. Faster response would be good.
  • There are bunch of links to fundraising on web which goto default page which doesnt have option to change to INR, This is highly needed. If there are issues with dropdown boxes, plain HTML links can help. Logicwiki 08:38, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just to update you on where we are with these:
  • Passed this suggestion on to our tech team and it would have to be a change made by our external payment processor. So has been forwarded to them, not sure how long it will take to get a response.
  • Yep, this has been part of the reason we couldn't accept debit cards. We just got our registration for VBV & MSC in India, and it's currently being tested.
  • As above, we're working on debit cards and hopefully will have them available in the next week or so. Meanwhile we've taken down banners in India until we can provide this. Netbanking is a bit more tricky, we're still looking at it but it might not be possible for this year.
  • Yep, we're aware of this, especially with the sidebar links which should be fixed today or tomorrow. Meanwhile you can visit [1] to get the right page for your country. Peter Coombe (WMF) 12:17, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
