A suggestion[edit]

For the Wikipedia User Interface, I think it will be good to include a short description of every topic along with the screen shots. What say?

Plagiarism section is both inaccurate and misleading[edit]

This section needs to be completely rewritten. It is both inaccurate and misleading. It confuses plagiarism with copyright infringement. They are not the same thing. It is quite possible to plagiarise without committing copyright infringement, e.g. by verbatim copying from a publiic domain text without attribution. Similarly, it is quite possible to commit copyright infringement without plagiarising, e.g. using accurately attributed and clearly marked quotes from a copyright source which are of excessive length or cannot be justified under fair use. Note also that close paraphrasing from a copyright source, even with attribution, can constitute copyright infringement.

Of course, students should neither plagiarise nor commit copyright infringement. However, it needs to be heavily emphasised that copyright infringement (unlike some kinds of plagiarism) causes serious legal problems for Wikipedia. The consequences for the students are minor compared to that, and it gives the impression that they may not even be caught right away which could lead them to take a chance on it. Given the serious copyright infringement problems caused by the IEP pilot, it is vital that you get these issues right next time. Please read the following for further understanding and I strongly suggest that you run the final text past Maggie Dennis (User:Mdennis (WMF)) before using this in a brochure to be given to students.
