This sounds good. I just wondered how to help with l10n, and had a really hard time finding out... --zeno 09:32, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Something like this is already being used at http://www.Wikicities.com I think. About the name, well, could it be babylon.wikimedia.org? 66.65.203.162 05:47, 31 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Not really. What we do have at Wikicities is the ability to share templates across wikis, so some messages are set to always be drawn from the Central Wikicity rather than from the local MediaWiki namespace or the language file. This wouldn't be workable for most messages though, since people do want to be able to customise their wiki (for example, the sidebar having "Wikimedia News" on Meta and "current events" on the English Wikipedia despite them both having English as the default interface). We only do it for messages on Wikicities where we don't want wikis customising beyond a simple translation - like the "report a problem" link which we require to be on every wiki. That's sounds good for using a seprate wiki to do the localisation of the interface. As currently I am doing about the translation about the Chinese interface and Cantonese interface at Chinese Wikipedia and Cantonese Wikipedia respctively. --Shinjiman 02:59, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Betawiki[edit]

Such project already exists today - Betawiki. You still need to be admin to edit the MediaWiki: namespace. Contact Nikerabbit on IRC (#mediawiki-i18n). He will also commit changes to central repository (SVN) of MediaWiki after you translate the strings. ~~helix84 14:17, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
