Further thoughts

[edit]

I now think that we need something like our own Google Books. It would probably be easier to scan an entire book and reference the relevant passages than to save passages of text from the same book over and over again. Sinuhe20 (talk) 18:42, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

How does this relate to your other proposal?

[edit]

Can you explain the relationship between OfflineCite and your other proposal, CiteSnap? The project proposals seem almost identical, to the extent that large sections of the proposal appear to have been copied and pasted. Omphalographer (talk) 02:51, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Overlap with existing projects

[edit]

This project proposal seem to overlap heavily with existing Wikimedia projects:

  • Where offline sources are freely licensed, those sources can already be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and transcribed on Wikisource. It's unclear what value a new project to "manage" those sources would provide.
  • Metadata management is the domain of Wikidata. Storing metadata within a project is inadvisable.

Can you explain how this project would differ from these existing projects, and what specific features it could provide to distinguish itself? Omphalographer (talk) 02:57, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
