Who should fill in this questionnaire[edit]

I think will have some more feedback on this over the next couple of days and weeks but I wanted to share this right away as it might be helpful for others who also plan to go through this process: As far as I understood from the overall reading, the aim is to get more volunteers than staff and more volunteers who are not on the board than board members to participate in this survey. This information is missing on this site, I read it somewhere else. I recommend to include it here, as not everyone might read through all the other resources beforehand or might oversee this information there. Thanks! --CDG (WMAT staff) (talk) 21:30, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot for this comment, Claudia. I think the section of the User Guide you may have read is here: Organizational_effectiveness/Tool/User_guide#Preparing_to_take_the_organizational_effectiveness_questionnaire. While we have asked groups to read the user guide before moving forward with the questionnaire, I agree that the most essential information can be included both places because not everyone taking the questionnaire will have time to read it and some of the information is easy to miss. I might think of some ways to make the User Guide itself a bit more visually engaging and pull out some of the most key points visually to help out with that.
We've received some other questions related to this particular point around panel composition, so I've reach out to TCC group to get some more detailed technical advice on the panel composition and once I have some more details I will add information about this to the support materials. That said, as with most aspects of this tool, it is designed to be customizable and used by organizations working in many different contexts. In some situations a different type of panel composition could make sense, so my guess is that organizations will still have some flexibility here, regardless of our final recommendation. Based on this and some other questions we received, we discussed this with the TCC group to get a little more clarity on who should respond, and updated the text in the user guide. Basically, we think the composition you've quoted from the user guide is ideal for most staffed organizations but we recognize that it may not work for every single organization. The underlying principle is that it's important not to have an overwhelming number of board members in proportion to other volunteers in order to get the most balanced results, but as long as there is a healthy number of respondents from each volunteer group (board members and non-board members) this should not be a big issue. We'll keep your suggestion to add some more explicit instructions to the questionnaire itself in mind for the next iteration of the tool. Looking forward to your additional feedback as you go through the process! Cheers, Winifred Olliff (FDC Support Team) talk 23:15, 15 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
