Talk:Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Acehnese Wikipedia

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Why?[edit]

Why you close this proposal soon? Other Acehnese wikipedians still don't vote yet. -- Si Gam Acèh 03:07, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Wikimedia project will not be closed on the basis of a simple vote count. There must be legitimate justification reflecting the Foundation's principles. No matter how many Acehnese Wikipedians believe that the Acehnese Wikipedia should be closed as a form of protest, this is an inherently invalid rationale. —David Levy 03:19, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But we want to close this project. We start this project and we want to close it now. You can't halt us. -- Si Gam Acèh 03:59, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Acehnese Wikipedia is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation. Its editors are free to depart, but they are not entitled to remove their existing contributions (which were irrevocably released under a free license) or decide that the Acehnese Wikipedia (written for readers of the Acehnese language, not adherents to a particular religion) will cease to exist. —David Levy 04:33, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Who write in Acehnese??? We or Wikimedia Foundation??? -- Si Gam Acèh 06:56, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By "we," to whom are you referring? There are many more speakers of Acehnese than those who have edited the Acehnese Wikipedia thus far, and all are welcome to contribute (irrespective of their religious beliefs or lack thereof). They do so on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. —David Levy 08:13, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
