Talk:Public outreach/Academy/RfC/John's talk

Comment[edit]

I think that it is very important in this talk to emphasize that Wikipedia uses different methods of quality control than academia. We have to keep in mind that these are professionals who might get easily frustrated on Wikipedia. Just in the past few weeks, we've had scientists saying they never want to submit anything to FAC again because of their frustration with the amateurish nature of our review process. Their complaint was largely that we weren't like a peer reviewed journal. I have heard this complaint from many academics on Wikipedia. I think it is really important to emphasize that Wikipedia will never have those kinds of quality controls - it has different ones because it has different aims. Could you provide a link to the discussions on FAC, please? It'd be helpful to read over those comments. Proteins 12:30, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
here, for example. The discussion was rather fragmented. You'll have to check user talk pages, too, I'm afraid. Awadewit 17:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
