Hosting an Event at WMF offices in SF[edit]

Hi Wikimedia LGBT+ folx!

So happy you'll be running this event! We'd be happy to host a local instance of the conference at the WMF San Francisco offices. Please feel free to reach out to me or send my info to anyone who is trying to put together a Bay Area node and needs a place to host.

Cheers!

Hey @RWeissburg (WMF) would you and/or anyone else from your WMF SF office colleagues be able to join on the next QW Office Hour #8:Nodes, Partnerships and Program? --Zblace (talk) 21:54, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I couldn't join the one today, and am not available tomorrow either, but I'm going to see if a colleague can join! RWeissburg (WMF) (talk) 16:09, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Zblace! I'm Jorge Vargas, Director of Partnerships at WMF, also based in San Francisco. As noted,RWeissburg (WMF) couldn't make it to the Office Hour, but if there's any way we can help support you hosting a node at the WMF San Francisco office, let me know and I can find ways to support. I'll be traveling to Wikimedia Conference India this week, but we can find local support as needed while you plan. You can also find me at jvargas [at] wikimedia.org, if you'd rather send me an email to discuss. Let us know! Best, Jorge - --JVargas (WMF) (talk) 21:58, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @JVargas (WMF) and @RWeissburg (WMF) !
Thank you for getting in touch. We are focusing on getting few nodes that need local support from us, but also happy to have Wikimedia Affiliates do node events at their premises, especially if they open it for community members like Wikimedia Argentina and Wikimedia Germany plan to. Would you be able to do the same? On which day(s) and hours could you do that? Would weekend be a problem? So far it seems most will be on the weekend, as volunteers are more likely to be free. Also in terms of hours, as most of our participants and online program is on the sides of Atlantic or near time zones, it could be it starts early for you. You are encouraged to organize offline activity that is beyond just watching/participating online. We would encourage you to first check if you have at least 3-4 WMF people who are interested to do node event as core team together at specific time, then open invite for others. It would be desirable that this is informal meetup for socializing, interaction with QW2023 and community building, as safe and inclusive space. Will email you more technical aspects we are trying to fix these days. Also please check existing and consider to fill in the your preliminary info under QW2023/Nodes#List_of_local_node_events. Again thank you for reaching out. --Zblace (talk) 05:29, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Folx!

@JVargas (WMF) and @RWeissburg (WMF) would help with providing a MeetUp space in san Francisco via WMF if you or other are interested maybe to meet as LGBTIQ+ Wikipedians...interested? --Zblace (talk) 15:44, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I could possibly do this on Saturday or Sunday. I'd suggest also emailing the Wikimedia SF mailing list, since it has other people who may be interested. Dreamyshade (talk) 16:57, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Dreamyshade! You can ping me here, via email (jvargas at wikimedia dot org), or on the channel for the node SF. Here to host you in the SF office if that's helpful for interested folks. Thanks! --JVargas (WMF) (talk) 06:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
