Common script for Punjabi

The matter can be resolved by using the Shahmukhi script with vowel signs already in use and using a new letter for retroflex n and l. As a matter of fact, Shahmukhi has been used since the 11th century for writing Punjabi by epic poets Bulleh Shah, Baba Farid Ganj Shakar, Waris Shah and Abdal Latif whereas the Gurumukhi script has been basically created for the compilation and writing of the Sikh holy scriptures like the Guru Granth Sahib, Dasham Granth and Sukhmani Sahib etc. So in order to summarise, Gurumukhi is a liturgical script for the Sikhs. Most Hindus are unwilling to accept the Gurumukhi script and have declared Hindi as their mother tongue.

The Nastaliq was already an official script during the British rule for writing Urdu and all the three communities viz. Muslim, Hindu and Sikh didn't fight over the script but there was a consensus at that time. So it's possible to standardise the Shahmukhi script for the Punjabi language. The technical or administrative glossary can be derived from Persian(Dari) if so required. Indigenous stock of words too can be used for that purpose. Dr. Bijoy Das (talk) 06:03, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
