Talk:The Africa Project

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

South Africa[edit]

I have a goal of seeing active Wikipedias in all South African languages. I am beginning to approach local funders to assist in the translation. South Africa is perhaps slightly easier to achieve, as the infrastructure is better here, and the number of schools with computers is greater than in other areas of Africa. There's also a reasonable number of South African contributors in English, who've produced some good local articles, so there's less likely to be a Euro-centric initial version. Anyone who wants to collaberate, please contact me on my Wikipedia talk page Greenman 23:40, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My name's Idriss Ouattara. I am from the Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire) and I have always been puzzled by the behaviour of Africans in general when it comes to our own development. Instead of investing our energy in economic activities, we all tend to lean towards politics.Hence the upsurge of rebellions and coups.

I think Education and has a key role in the development of Africa; reason why I am trying to get in touch with any individuals or charities willing to help towards such a noble cause.

I have already started an educational centre called the GSM(Groupe Scolaire Adja Mampo)to help the population with quality education.

I can get any acres of land in the northern town of Bondoukou for whoever has a good project. The region is an ideal for tourism because of its exotic environment and culture.Besides, There is a huge park for the best Safari in West Africa.

Example of govt. support of Wikipedia content devt.[edit]

The German government is aparently supporting development of Wikipedia content in German. See this message on AfrophoneWikis. Not sure this approach can be duplicated in Africa, but perhaps it is a good example to point to. --A12n 15:37, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
