New vision statement?

I found a sentence looks like a vision statement at the back cover of the annual report of 2010-2011. What's your current vision statement? "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge." --Ryuch 20:39, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The current vision statement is at wmf:Vision.
The Annual Report seems to (consistently) use a variant, but it does not use the official vision statement. --MZMcBride 20:54, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
The version quoted above is what Jimbo Wales originally said back in 2004. It has indeed persisted in many places, official and unofficial, long after the 2007 WMF Board resolution recognizing the community-approved version. I'm not sure why the original version is still used by the WMF. I'd speculate that Jimmy Wales has a sentimental connection to his original words, which is of course entirely understandable. But I do think it would be good for the organization and the movement to unify behind the version that has been through both community-based and board-approved decision process. I've asked Jimmy Wales about his preferences here. -Pete F (talk) 18:43, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Addendum: I've always been a little confused about the Resolution's statement that there was discussion. I think I finally found the answer. In November 2006, Erik Möller sent an email to the Wikimedia email list outlining in some detail the thinking to date about the mission and vision statements. (It seems that some of the movement from "access" to "share" resulted from an in-person retreat, so it's possible that no document clearly captures that decision.) There was a bit of discussion; it was renewed in January 2007 prior to the Board decision. I leave these links to facilitate any future efforts to follow the evolution of the Mission and Vision statements. -Pete F (talk) 19:01, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
