New vision statement?

[edit]

I found a sentence looks like a vision statement at the back cover of the annual report of 2010-2011. What's your current vision statement? "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge." --Ryuch 20:39, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The current vision statement is at wmf:Vision.
The Annual Report seems to (consistently) use a variant, but it does not use the official vision statement. --MZMcBride 20:54, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
The version quoted above is what Jimbo Wales originally said back in 2004. It has indeed persisted in many places, official and unofficial, long after the 2007 WMF Board resolution recognizing the community-approved version. I'm not sure why the original version is still used by the WMF. I'd speculate that Jimmy Wales has a sentimental connection to his original words, which is of course entirely understandable. But I do think it would be good for the organization and the movement to unify behind the version that has been through both community-based and board-approved decision process. I've asked Jimmy Wales about his preferences here. -Pete F (talk) 18:43, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Addendum: I've always been a little confused about the Resolution's statement that there was discussion. I think I finally found the answer. In November 2006, Erik Möller sent an email to the Wikimedia email list outlining in some detail the thinking to date about the mission and vision statements. (It seems that some of the movement from "access" to "share" resulted from an in-person retreat, so it's possible that no document clearly captures that decision.) There was a bit of discussion; it was renewed in January 2007 prior to the Board decision. I leave these links to facilitate any future efforts to follow the evolution of the Mission and Vision statements. -Pete F (talk) 19:01, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ebay alternative

[edit]

I have written to GNU, suggesting the development of a software platform to provide society, via the internet with a better business experience, as far as rapport, and good faith dealings, and the concept of an arm's length transaction, than ebay. I forgot my password, requested better access to share my ideas than given years ago when contacted to correct a typographical error in vision we seem to share similarities in.

Doesn't seem so odd. I was younger then. I am wiser now, and and able to state why I would be glad to have that site somewhere associated with the venue of your online community where communications is the forum for the advancement of relationships, ideas, rapport, and understanding.

Get back to me soon. I am definitely not disgruntled with ebay. I am certain I care less for them than they do for how they simply dont follow their policy, allow aliases to use them to create problems with logistics. Last time contacted, I have no idea what I called the log in. This time it is Sal Trapani. Saltrapanimetawiki@gmail.com because it is specific to this cause. I separete my emails. To make it more convenient to be organized.

I do not plan to be relevent anymore than simply having an idea, that is better than spending 4 hours talking to ebay when they have less integrity than me, than paypal. They have been wasting my time, causing me not to be able to contact buyers. And, honestly, I think there needs to be what is a new internet market, using secured scheduled webcam conferencing. To build trust and a sense of integrity that someone is not scamming you over a $15 typewriter.

Have a good day. I am Sal Trapani. I do not have aliases. Do not expect government support, not playing like any government agent. Just a person who understands the difference between discretion in wasting hours with ebay, and possibility in suggesting idea to an old friend.

(GNU is respected and an online resource providing opportunities, I have asked their advice if such a platform is possible and if they would be willing to create it)
