REGULAR EXPRESSIONS (REGEX)[edit]

What type of regular expressions (regex) will it allow? That's an important issue for Advanced search engines. --Backinstadiums (talk) 21:18, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi@Backinstadiums: sorry for the delayed reply. The AdvancedSearch form that we develop builds up on the existing search . As far as we know, the only keyword to currently use regex is the insource parameter. However, since this parameter seems to have performance implications, we will not support it in the form. But it would still be very intersting to know what the searches are that you currently do (or want to do) using regex, so we can think about these use cases in the future! --Lea Voget (WMDE) (talk) 10:54, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Lea Voget (WMDE): It would improve the user experience to make available a chinese input system similar to that of Microsoft Word, so that the possible characters/words themselves can be selected. Furthermore, I'd enable double pinyin --Backinstadiums (talk) 16:55, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Backinstadiums: Thanks for clariying! Just to be sure: The input methods suggested by you should apply to any kind of search, independent of keywords or not, right? In that case this is nothing the AdvancedSearch form can handle, since we only make visible what exists already. It might make sense, though, to put your suggestions in a phabricator ticket, so that you can discuss this with the search team? --Lea Voget (WMDE) (talk) 11:32, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
