Talk:WikiAbstracts

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I can't say I really understand the value of this idea. Are you suggesting that we all find published scientific articles and compile abstracts of them on a Wiki? If so, this would seem fairly redundant, as journals surely catalogue their articles and corresponding abstracts in an accessible location. If this isn't the gist of the proposal, pray illuminate. I had the idea myself, and really want to get this started.[1]. there is already a commercial service offering this: [2]. by looking at the commercial service, you see the value in creating summaries of entire books. Problem: What i think is quite necessary here is, to introduce MPOV, multiple point of views, as in translation as well in compressing into abstracts, you always interpret. so we are creating original content, which should be fairly hard to make NPOV.--wp:ExpImp - 83.181.91.51 22:42, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Support SupportPerfect idea! We have some looklike projects in Czech Republic as well as I use often proffessional bibliographies and abstracts, however the free WikiAbstracts made by students, librarists, specialists, even book authors would be a great opportunity to find the propper information. The NPOV/MPOV cause can be a problem, but should not - on my opinion - be an obstacle for the project as I did not mention many complaints about the neutrality of let's say fiction books or movie plots.Okino 08:55, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
