The 'legitimate content pages' contributed by individuals could also be used for these degrees especially for contributors on African Languages. A 5,000 entries by an individual could earn a B.A. in the language, M.A., 10,000 and PhD., 15,000. This will encourage more people to contribute to African languages wiki. --user:LOAdewole

this is a great idea, one could make it so that people wishing to become admins must go through this "Wiki U", their grades determining their admin status. This could prove a users commitment and knolege of wikipedia, i think its a revolutionary idea! 72.88.115.15 05:35, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Legal concerns w/ using the word "degree"[edit]

I'm no expert (nor do I play one on TV) but isn't there restrictions on someone claiming to issue a degree to a person? I know there was a huge issue w/ the diploma mills in the US and I wanted to make sure any "certificates" that might be issued wouldn't cause legal issues. -- Tawker 01:14, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no expert either, but i think as long as you give several disclaimers, youre fine. for example, there are tons of non-accredited "degrees" out there; degrees in many paranormal or fringe sciences, like being a degree holder in chakra reading, or tarot. And then there are other highly specialized fields where accredidation is just not needed-Ringling Bros. This is an interesting idea, but as I understood this project would only serve for fun, wouldn't it? Do you think Wikimedia Foundation would need and approve that?

Wikiversity[edit]

as i understand it, wikiversity is more about providing educational materials for teachers and other educators, and less about laying out a course of study for someone on a particular topic. for example, you could find chapters, articles, pamphlets etc. on some topic, say economics. but if you know nothing about the topic, you wouldnt know where to start, where to finish, whats vital reading and whats not, and you might easily not know when, or even if, youve achieved a basic level of knowledge on the subject. plus at WCC youd get a cool template for your page that lets everyone know what an awesome person you are. --71.220.206.162 02:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
