A comment from afar ... from someone observing a chapter[edit]

Hello Sati and Asaf!

Glad to see you organizing this session. Somehow this stuff about creating organizations has gotten just way too complicated and full of jargon.

From my perspective, we could really use a turnkey, out-of-the-box solution for chapters organized in major cities with major cultural institutions, something along these lines:

  1. Staff person (full time) who does event coordination, volunteer coordination, and local outreach to cultural and educational institutions. Creates and updates the contact database. This person maintains contacts by e-mail, makes and returns phone calls during business hours, and updates the organization website with current schedule of events.
  2. Staff person (1/2 time) who does evaluation and compliance with WMF reporting requirements, and posts these reports on the organization website. Attends some events.
  3. Staff person (1/2 time) responsible for bookkeeping and WMF financial reporting. Attends some events.
  4. Out of the box, standardized software solution, for maintaining these back-office functions.
  5. Out of the box, standardized templates for basic construction of organization's web site.

This stuff isn't rocket science; it just takes paid people with the appropriate skill sets to provide the basic framework for staying on top of things.

Hope y'all are considering keeping it simple! For an organization at WMF's funding level, 2 FTEs per chapter with software support is really not too much to ask.

Enjoy your conference, --Djembayz (talk) 17:45, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
