Talk:Wikimedia Foundation Board Governance Committee/2016 competence matrix

Comments[edit]

Thanks for posting this. One or two things that struck me. Firstly, Global NGO and community management don't seem to go well together. Does this mean on-line community management? If so, what is the relationship be that and global NGOs, by which I assume you mean entities such as Oxfam, UNICEF, and so on? Secondly, local-versus-global. Some of the concerns are presumably US-centred, since the WMF as an organisation is based in the US. Some of them are or might be global, such as open source organisations, and some might be centred in countries other than the US, such as media properties. Some are stated to be global. Could the list be more explicit? Thirdly, what exactly is the difference between academic and academia? Rogol Domedonfors (talk) 16:38, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Key areas[edit]

It's somewhat confusing that the two key areas identified as most crucial do not align exactly with the areas identified within the competency matrix. Rogol Domedonfors (talk) 16:38, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Open knowledge?[edit]

I don't see anything in the current list related to open knowledge, crowdsourced knowledge, wikimedia projects, etc. Perhaps it's a "fish in the water" thing, and everyone on the board is assumed to have competence. But it seems worth listing anyway, perhaps on the same line as "open source". --KSmith (WMF) (talk) 18:54, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
