Huggle templates[edit]

It is wrong to say that the Huggle templates have not changed in years, therefore I have amended the text. Rich Farmbrough 13:20 18 October 2011 (GMT).

Hi Rich,
I reverted your edit; for continuity, we need to be sure that the report here and the one on the blog match.
So, what we mean by "static" here is that while a couple of the links may have changed, the content of the message really hasn't. Take a look – here's the current level 1 vandalism warning issued by Huggle:
  • Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Science with [{{{2}}} this edit], did not appear to be constructive, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. ~~~~
And here's the level 1 vandalism warning (uw-vandalism1) created in January 2007 by Khukri:
  • Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, unconstructive edits, are considered to be vandalism. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.~~~~
The tone and phrasing (passive voice, impersonal constructions) are exactly the same. Compare this to a rewrite we're currently testing:
  • Hello and welcome! I edit Wikipedia too, under the username Maryana (WMF). Wikipedia is written by people like you and me, so thank you for taking the time to participate. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made to Science with this edit, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions about editing, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! ~~~~
Does that make sense? It's not that the template hasn't been edited, it's that the message it sends is nearly identical to the one sent five years ago. Maryana (WMF) 04:05, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
