File description pages[edit]

There has been some discussion on Wikidata about wikidata for Commons. The conclusion was that Commons needs it's own version of wikidata with a new entitiy type for files where the data page for these entities would replace the file description page. Advantages:

  • description pages internationalised. Localisation made much easier.
  • Reuse wikidata items (and their translations) as a controlled vocabulary for describing files
  • Category pages replaced by queries

I think you are wrong to delay this till later - it should be ready to go early 2014. I think this should happen before the media developments you are discussing here. Filceolaire (talk) 10:09, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia 2.0[edit]

There are a number of developments on mediawiki which are coming together - Visual editor, Wikidata, Flow. I think we need a big launch for Mediawiki 2.0 at Wikimania 2014 in London. Channel you inner Steve jobs and make it fabulous. Filceolaire (talk) 10:14, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
