A 2-day workshop was conducted to impart training to college teachers in the southern city of Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli. This page contains the details of the event and its outcome.

Objective

  1. Introduction about Tamil Wikipedia to new users and provide training for contribution.
  2. After the training, content improvement of articles by new users.

Day 1

  1. Inaugural meeting was started at 10 am as per the schedule and concluded at 11 am.
  2. Introduction about Wikimedia, Tamil Wikipedia, Commons, Tamil Wiktionary and Wikisource were presented by Dr. P. Mariappan, M. Selvasivagurunathan, S. Balasubramanian, Sreekrishnan Narayanan and V. Vasantha Lakshmi.
  3. Navigation to Tamil Wikipedia was demonstrated by G. Arularasan.
  4. After the lunch, hands-on training began in the computer lab.
  5. Dr. P. Mariappan explained about editing in Tamil Wikipedia.
  6. Trainers helped partcipants to create their user account.
  7. Participants tried to curate articles which were in their interested area.
  8. Q&A session was conducted before closing the day.

Day 2

  1. K.Murthy and Sridhar G provided training on how to write a new article.
  2. Participants created their first article in their sandbox. Trainers checked those article in parallel and helped to move as Draft: or as common space article.
  3. Creation of articles and other editing activities continued till the evening.
  4. Q&A session, feedback session were followed and the event was ended with formal closing.

Follow up after the event

  1. Weekly online meeting for the first 4 weeks.
  2. Monthly online meeting for next 5 months (following the first month)
  3. After a period of 3 months or 6 months, a one day event will be organised. This will be based on the responses received and on need basis.
