You can help improve existing Wikipedia articles in several ways.


Activity 1: Add references

All information on Wikipedia should have references, you can help Wikipedia be more accurate by adding references to existing articles.

Activity 2: Add new information to articles


Step 1: Find an article to improve:

You can explore articles about women by occupation, nationality and by year of birth (list includes both men and women). Or by the quality of the articles; stub class, start class and C class.

Step 2: Add the information:

  1. Find a suitable reference online or in a book and click on the article 'edit'.
  2. Click 'Edit' at the top of the article, if you see code click to switch to the Visual Editor.
  3. Write a the information you want to add to Wikipedia in your own words (don't just copy someone else's work).
  4. Add the reference to the end of the sentence.
  5. Click 'Publish changes' and say what you did in the summary.


Activity 3: Add links to other articles


All pages on Wikipedia should be linked together:

  1. Find a page you want to add links to (see activity 2, step 1).
  2. Find words in the page that could link to other articles.
  3. Click 'Edit' at the top of the article, if you see code click to switch to the Visual Editor.
  4. Add links to the other articles, you don't have to link every mention of a word, only the first one.
  5. Click 'Publish changes' and say what you did in the summary.


Activity 4: Add images


You can add images to articles to help people understand the subject better

  1. Find an article you want to add an image to.
  2. Click 'Edit' at the top of the article (if you see code click to switch to the Visual Editor).
  3. Add an image
  4. Click 'Publish changes' and say what you did in the summary.


Activity 5: Join the community


There are several ways to be involved with writing about women on Wikipedia:
