A parameter of a template can, in the template content, be referred to by an expression:

{{t pnd1|capital=Paris|country=France|selected parameter=country}} using Template:t pnd1 containing "{{{capital}}} is the capital of {{{country}}}. The selected parameter {{{selected parameter}}} has the value {{{{{{selected parameter}}}}}}." gives:

Paris is the capital of France.

The selected parameter country has the value France.
