The International Youth Day (IYD) 2022 aims to engage young wikimedians and the entire Wikimedia community in activities that will contribute to content related to this year's IYD theme. It will also recognize the work of diverse young people in building free knowledge in the movement.

Recognizing that there are young people in almost every wikimedia community demonstrates the need to celebrate young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives as well as their meaningful engagement in the movement.
