What is article scoping

[edit]

By default, an event page on Programs & Events Dashboard will track mainspace contributions by all participating editors to all the tracked wikis for that event, as well as Commons file uploads.

Scoping your Dashboard event — using the Article Scoped Program event type — will let you limit the tracking to a specific set of articles. Only the edits made to wiki pages within the event's scope will count towards the statistics and show up on the list of edited pages.

Highlighting specific topics can make the choice of what to work on easier for event participants. It can also serve to elevate a specific set of missing articles. This training module will use English Wikipedia Equity lists as an example, but there are several options to configure the scoping of your event. Scoping can make it more manageable to encourage students/participants to edit a specific set of articles, and also provides cleaner statistics when some participants are also working on other topics on their own during the tracking period.
