From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

These reports will serve the Wikimedia Foundation, the broader Wikimedia movement, the Grant Advisory Committee (GAC), past, current, and future grantees, and nonprofit organizations and other interested parties around the world.

  • Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) needs these reports to verify that funds were spent in the manner specified in the grant agreement and to ensure that the WMF grants program is meeting legal and regulatory requirements.
  • The Grant Advisory Committee (GAC), the Wikimedia community, and others outside the Wikimedia movement, may also read these reports in order to better understand how the Wikimedia movement funds are being used by the WMF Project and Event Grants Program and by grantees.
  • The Wikimedia community at large (which includes past, current, and future grantees) and others outside the movement, may gain valuable insights that inform the development of future projects and activities.
  • The WMF and the broader Wikimedia movement needs these reports to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and programs across the movement.
  • These reports may establish a track record of performance of this grantee within the movement and will be considered by groups such as the Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) and the WMF Project and Event Grants Program itself when evaluating that entity's track record. They may also be used as a tool by grantees to communicate about their activities within and outside of the Wikimedia movement.
