From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

At the end of the voting period, eligibility of voters will be determined and points will be tallied. The top point winners will be assessed by Wikimedia Foundation staff, who will be analyzing them for legal issues (such as inadvertent infringement of an existing trademark) or technical issues (such as with usable reproduction) and may, at their sole discretion, have to eliminate submissions based upon that analysis. People who have submissions eliminated by the Wikimedia Foundation following this review for these reasons will receive a clear explanation of why. After the review period, which may take up to five business days, the top three point-scoring logos after elimination will be announced. In the case of a tie, there may be more than three finalists. The creators of these finalists, including any eliminated for good-faith issues disqualifying them during this review period, will receive a complete set of existing project lapel pins if they choose to submit legal addresses to the merchandising manager within five weeks of notification of eligibility. After the point winners are announced, there will be a final review period of one week during which submissions may be further discussed and modifications proposed. For each point winner, the community may select up to two modifications to run along with the original for the final vote. A simple majority poll on the talk page is required for consensus to run a modification. Modifications are also subject to assessment and elimination by Wikimedia Foundation staff for legal or technical issues.
