My name is Ian and I am a Brazilian-American Wikimedian living in Casablanca. I have eclectic interests and I contribute in many areas, but I'm especially interested in languages, history, and society. My passion for Wikipedia comes from its utility in the liberation of knowledge, in critical historiography, in covering ignored or neglected aspects of history, in the empowerment of oppressed people, and in dismantling oppressive structures.

"When education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor."

"Le savoir n'est pas fait pour comprendre, il est fait pour trancher."
"Knowledge is not made for understanding; it is made for cutting."

"To be unacquainted with what has passed in the world, before we came into it ourselves, is to be always children. For what is the age of a single mortal, unless it is connected, by the aid of History, with the times of our ancestors?"
-Cicero in Brutus
