Welcome to the SDM Wikipedia Students Association. We are a group of students from Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College Ujire, Karnataka. It is a college-based club that has been established to promote the Wikimedia movement. This was inaugurated on 4 February 2020. It supports students in learning and developing skills towards the work of Wikipedia and Wikimedia movement. The students get trained in Wikisource, Wikipedia & Wikimedia commons.
Objectives[edit]
The main objectives of the SDM Wikipedia Students association can be seen below:
- Writing Skills (ability to write in an objective fashion).
- Digital information literacy skills.
- Ability to critically engage with a concept/theme.
- Language proficiency skills.
- Providing scope for student's overall progress.
- Developing the habit of research among students.
- Improving the language skills and richness in writings in Indian languages.
Background[edit]
Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College is an autonomous college under Mangalore University managed by SDME Society. The institution is guided by the visionary leadership of Padmabhushan Dr D.Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala. The college is identified as "College with Potential for Excellence." SDM College offers 23 graduate and 11 postgraduate programmes. From 2013 students of the Journalism department are contributing to Wikipedia by creating articles. The event pages can be seen below:
