This research study is based on analysing the gaps and bias in gender based participation and content in Indian language Wikimedia communities. There were three thematic areas which included observations on online and offline participation of women in Wikimedia platforms and events and also the impacts that can lead to a sustainable participation of women in the communities. The study involved 15 interviews and 2 Focused Group Discussions with the women contributors from Indian language Wikimedia communities. The observation from this study includes a set of recommendations which could help the communities and the foundation to refurbish their existing systems and make the Open Knowledge movements more inclusive for more women participation.

Sum of all Indian paintings(Indian women painters and paintings that depict women)[edit]
Bridging the Gender Gap is a priority focus of A2K's mission. In accordance with this the Sum of Indian paintings had a day of datathon exclusively to encourage women in the communities to contribute and gather data on Indian women painters and paintings that depict women. This event was part of the Wikidata Eighth Birthday, the women and other contributors who showed interest to the Sum of all Indian paintings were sent invites to participate in adding the women related content.
As a result of the one-day datathon, around 5 contributors contributed around 20 edits which included mostly creating labels and descriptions and very few added items/properties. But there are few additions even after the datathon as the weekend on which the datathon took place was Navrathri/Dussehra festive time in many parts of India, so not many could contribute exactly on the datathon date.
