About me
I live in Santiago, Chile, and I’m passionate about building bridges between science and collaborative knowledge. I first joined the Wikimedia movement in 2018 as Soylacarli, and since then my main home has been Wikidata, where I work to connect information and make knowledge more accessible and reusable.
My interests are strongly linked to open science and open data, which comes naturally from my background as an astronomer. I’m especially interested in how Wikimedia projects can strengthen transparency, participation, and equitable access to knowledge in Latin America. Beyond editing, I enjoy sharing what I learn with others and supporting communities to use Wikimedia as a tool for collaboration and discovery.
My work
I joined Wikimedia Chile in 2020 as Community Officer, supporting local volunteers and outreach initiatives. Over time, my role grew into more technical and programmatic areas, where I specialized in Wikidata, open science, and digital knowledge tools. Today, I serve as Deputy Executive Director of the chapter. Some of the projects and areas I have worked on include:
- Training and capacity building: I lead the only Wikidata course in Spanish offered in Latin America, training over 100 people each year. I have also designed and facilitated workshops on Wikimedia projects for educators, librarians, cultural institutions, and researchers.
- Community and regional collaboration: I help coordinating regional campaigns such as Latinoamérica en Wikidata and initiatives to strengthen the technical community in Latin America.
- Open science and public policy: I have led projects to integrate institutional and scientific data into Wikidata.
- Tool development and experimentation: I have worked on tools such as Wikicurricula (to map the Chilean curriculum with Wikidata) and scripts to analyze geolocated edits and editors. I also help bringing awareness to Wikibase on Latin America.
