"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of 'disaster,' I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world." About me

I have been an English Wikipedia editor since 2004. My volunteer account is User:Harej. As a member of the community I co-founded the Wikimedia District of Columbia chapter and led numerous programs, organized Wikimania 2012 in Washington, DC, and was awarded grants by the Wikimedia Foundation to work on WikiProject X and Librarybase. My volunteer work has focused mainly on improving community workflows on English Wikipedia, including Requests for Comments, as well as work on the Wikidata project where I am highly active. My experience volunteering for Wikimedia in both online and offline settings inform my interest in making sure people who support our mission can find each other, collaborate, and learn.

I currently live in San Francisco, but I grew up in New Jersey and lived in Washington, DC, for six years. I have a degree in political science from American University. I am fond of old-school console gaming and adorable animals.

My work

In 2017 I worked on the Wikimedia Resource Center and Connect spaces for the Learning and Evaluation team. Currently I am working as a product manager for the Wikimedia Cloud Services team, developing new tools to improve the discoverability of tools developed and used by Wikimedians. In general, I am interested in working on tools, interfaces, and processes that support our communities.

You can see some old projects in my sandbox.

On Wikitech my WMF account is Corporateharej, but I don't expect to use it except for testing things.

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
