Welcome to the Event Page Wizard!

Event Page Wizard is a soft-prototype built to study the basic workflow of creating campaign event pages around the Wikimedia ecosystem.

Campaigns are activities that are usually focused on organizing editors to create contributions on a specific Wikimedia Project towards an objective in a definite period of time. Campaigns can either be edit-a-thons, photowalks, or other hybrid activities depending on the organizer’s plans, targets, and ideas.

What are we trying to do?

We are testing a wikitext-based workflow for creating an event with organizers to establish a baseline understanding of what organizers would like and not like from Event page creation processes.

How does this tool work?

This gadget supports event page creation simply by providing event details through a form. The form will prompt the organizers to provide information and will generate a pre-designed event page. The information needed to successfully finish the process are the following:

Type of event - whether the event is an editathon, contest or a meet-up
Name of event - title of the event page to be created in Meta
Background - what makes the event exciting? What is the first thing that participants need to learn
Goals - outcomes to achieve as part of the event
Activities - specific activities to achieve the over-all objective
Event meeting type - whether the event is online, in-person or a combination of both
Timeline - the start and end date of the event
How to participate - guidelines on how to join
Communication channels - off-wiki channels on where to reach out to organizers

How to use the tool?

Since this tool is built as a gadget, you need to enable this tool in your gadget preferences

Go to Preferences
Go to Gadgets Tab
Scroll down to Browsing gadgets
Look for campaignEventPages
Check the box, then click Save
