Capacity Building

Idea

Capacity building program will help to train community members and will help them learn different on-wiki and off-wiki skills like how to run queries, do outreach activities and others.

Projection

A2K will follow its previous programs like WikiTungi to train Wikipedians. WikiTungi is a city based community, where community members gathers and discuss about Odia Wikimedia projects. We will also encourage community members to join monthly IRCs, start webinars and will also encourage them to take part in A2K's event like TTT and MWT. We will also do Mini MWTs and TTTs for community members upon their request.

Challenges

• As the active community members from Puri WikiTungi have moved to different places, it's been difficult to regularise Puri Tungi meetups, we will think about different programs to make these meetups more regular.
• Many individuals aren't aware of the usage of IRC and webinars.

Supporting Usergroup

Supporting Usergroup

Idea

As Odia Community has become a User group, this work plan is designed to work along with the User group and help them become more sustainable. CIS-A2K will do events in collaboration with the user group and will also help user group in their work.

Projection

• A2K with the support of other users will help in documenting the work of User group when needed.
• Will try to bridge the communication gap between the community members and A2K staffs.
• Help community members in publishing new blogs, social media posts and help them to get media mentions.
• Help in creating Video tutorials and training modules for new users.
• Support community members in organising meetings, workshop and also to help them in their projects.

Challenges

Working along with two affiliates is a major challenge for now.

Community engagement grants

Community engagement grants

Idea

Community Engagement Grants are small grants which will be provided to volunteers on request to encourage them to do more outreach events. Volunteers doing small-scale projects will be benefited from this grant, as it will be easy to approach the team through the community advocate and through CIS-A2K request page.

Projection

A separate request page will be created for on Meta, where users can apply for the grant after taking community's approval. We will structure the grant page so that it will be easy for the volunteers to apply for the grant. Community Advocate will routinely look over the grant page and will ensure that the grant will reach to the volunteer within 1-2 weeks after approval. A small report will be requested from the volunteer to understand the outcome of the event, which will be shared on A2K newsletter.

Challenges

• If the grant request increases then it will be difficult to handle it and process it on time.
• A2K often encourages community members to search for in-kind support, so we will take some time to go-through the request and see what part of the grant can be funded and what can not be.

Institutional Partnerships

Institutional Partnerships

Idea

Over past few years, CIS has forged partnerships with various institutions in Odisha. This aims to continue the collaboration with our previous partners and help Odia Wikimedians User group to identify potential partners and run activities.

Projection

Institutional Partners will help run Odia Wikimedia activities in their institutions, provide workspace and help in spread awareness about the movement in the state. We will identify partners with a huge archive information, which can turn into Wikipedia articles or help in improving Wikimedia projects. A2K will help the partners understand the importance of their content donations or infrastructural support with reports and media posts.

Challenges

Follow-up with the partners are often difficult for community members and also for A2K.

Global Engagements

Global Engagements

Idea

Odia Wikipedia is one of the diverse communities in India and has represented in various international and national Wikimedia programs and projects. This aims to localise more Global projects for the benefit of the community and help Wikimedians to take part in it.

Projection

• Localise more global projects, help community members to write grants and reports.
• Help community members to write applications and proposals for participation.
• Encourage community members to take part in global projects.
• Invite international volunteers to do skype or hangout sessions to train local Wikipedians.

Challenges

Localising events often create problems as they're not in the context of local communities. Due to the difference in time zones, many volunteers won't be able to take sessions for the local community.
