What is the Encyclopedia of Philippine Heritage?
The Encyclopedia of Philippine Heritage (EPH) is long-term program of Wikimedia Philippines to use the Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata, as a platform for researching, documenting, and collecting information and knowledge about Philippine heritage, and then providing them to the public.
Who is Wikimedia Philippines?
Wikimedia Philippines is the local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation, which operates Wikipedia and other free and open-content projects. Wikimedia Philippines aims to promote Wikipedia and other projects and champion the use of free and open content in the Philippines.
What are the qualifications for being a researcher under EPH?
We will not require you to submit your academic credentials. We need researchers who are passionate about our heritage and who love to travel. A researcher must be into writing and/or photography. He/she must also publish his/her output in any Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.
Is this free?
Absolutely yes! Wikimedia Philippines will provide you the necessary expenses for the whole duration of the project as long as the expense is related to the project.
How long is the duration of the project?
Project officially starts on January 2016 to December 2016.
What are the responsibilities of being an EPH researcher?
A researcher must atleast write Wikipedia articles, upload photographs to Wikimedia Commons, and/or other necessary tasks aligned with the project. He/she must also attend Wikipedia editathons and other activities, such as WikiExpeditions, aligned to the project's goal.
Note: You do not need to be a good writer, blogger, or photographer to join the project. It maybe a plus factor but we need persons who are enthusiastic, who are willing to be trained, and is committed to the project.
Are you required to quit your job or stop from school?
In any part of the project, from the call for researchers until the deployment for official researchers, you are not required to quit your job, stop from school, or anything that you are currently doing just to focus on the project. You will do your tasks as an official researcher during your free time and at your own pace provided that you will meet the project's goal or deliverables. You will travel as you want, on holidays, long weekends, or on your vacation leaves.
Will I receive any compensation as a researcher?
This is voluntary work. However, Wikimedia Philippines will shoulder cost you have incurred related to the project. Just properly account it.
What is next after registering to the call for researchers?
After signing up using this registration form, you need to wait for a confirmation e-mail on the second or third week of January 2016. You will be invited on a series of precertification activities including a Wikipedia editathon. This is basically an introduction training on Wikimedia projects like article creation on Wikipedia and uplaoading of photographs in Wikimedia Commons. Once you passed the precertification activities, you will be invited on a 3-day conference to be held on March 2016 before your actual deployment around the country as an official EPH volunteer.
Note: Registering to the call for researchers does not mean that you will automatically qualify for the project. You need to wait for the confirmation e-mail. Having a confirmation e-mail does not mean again that you are now an EPH researcher. You need to pass the precertification activity.
