global rename about User:WQL[edit]

Recently, this user requested courtesy vanishing and usurped the username of WQL with his own old sockpuppet account. However, after so-called courtesy vanishing, the cross-wiki activity of WQL has not ceased at all. Courtesy vanishing means any user leave permanently. "If the user returns, the "vanishing" will likely be fully reversed, the old and new accounts will be linked, and any outstanding sanctions or restrictions will be resumed." I would like to have your opinion on should the courtesy vanishing be reverted? --J.Wong 19:31, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

@Wong128hk: Exactly as the policy says if someone edits after vanishing we have to link their old and new names or reverse the renaming. But before doing so I think we should also ask WQL about their return. Can you please contact them about the issue? ‐‐1997kB (talk) 02:50, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Userpage[edit]

Hi, could you also delate my userpage on meta? Cassjus (talk) 16:24, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

@Cassjus: Sorry I can't, because I am not a sysop. But you can request it's deletion by adding {{delete|Author's request}} on it. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 16:34, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Done; thank you :) Cassjus (talk) 16:46, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Clarification on Usurpation/rename[edit]

Thanks for jumping in on Username_changes and your helpful information! I must admit that I am still slightly confused by the process. When filling out https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Changing_username/Usurpations&action=submit, should I be logged in as the old account or the new one? I am previewing my request before submitting it, and it indicates Philipwith1L → Phildelta9 . The arrow here seems to point in the opposite direction of Philipwith1L taking over Phildelta9. Perhaps my confusion stems from the instructions which state "Log in to your present account." to post the usurp template on the other accounts Talk page. In reading, I've come to understand that this process can potentially be a pain and entail more work than the end user anticipates. I hope this is not the case for my situation, and I greatly appreciate your time and assistance. I've been wanting to get back into contributing and editing, but keep hesitating due to not wanting to spread the old user name. My ideal outcome is that Phildelta9 unified login goes away and I only use Philipwith1L across all projects going forward. Thanks! Philipwith1L (talk) 20:24, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

@Philipwith1L: Hello, Login with the Phildelta9 account and replace TARGET NAME with Philipwith1L and YOUR REASON with reason, after that login with Philipwith1L and sign below the request confirming you have access to both accounts and it's done at your end. Feel free to ask if you encounter any other problem! ‐‐1997kB (talk) 01:44, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
@Phildelta9: ^^ ‐‐1997kB (talk) 16:47, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
@1997kB: Cheers, thanks, excuse the delay! Philipwith1L (talk) 19:51, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

Account[edit]

No, seriously, it's me. I am contributing to Bosnian Wikipedia for a long time, and for some others as well. As an evidence, I can provide document I translated for CEE Meeting 2018 in Bosnian, that I translated for @Ата: from Ukrainian Wikipedia. With Croatian Wikipedia I won't have any problems, because their policy is if you make a new account, you can continue from scratch, as long as you respect rules. Change of username is not an issue. --Munja12 (talk) 16:55, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

@Munja12: I understand, but you need prove that account belongs to you, maybe some other wikipedian could confirm it who knows you in real life. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:28, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
@C3r4: and @Golden Bosnian Lily:, could you approve this is me? :D --Munja12 (talk) 17:15, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I could confirm that this user in RL is the same as bs:User:Munja.--C3r4 (talk) 06:54, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
@Fraxinus: As a Croatian Wikipedia bureaucrat and admin, what's your view on this as the user Munja is blocked on hrwiki and after renaming Munja12 to Munja there will be no block on Munja account anymore. Also as they mentioned above — With Croatian Wikipedia I won't have any problems, because their policy is if you make a new account, you can continue from scratch, as long as you respect rules. Is this applicable in this case? ‐‐1997kB (talk) 11:50, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Munja[edit]

Hello! On Croatian wikipedia when somebody is blocked and opens a new user name we block him again if we find out that is the same person. If we don't find out that is the same person and this time user behaves according to rules, we don't block him.--Fraxinus (talk) 22:10, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

@Munja12: Please file new request. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 11:47, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
@Fraxinus: FYI: I have renamed them, so you can decide now that they still need a block or not. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 15:53, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Abbas dhothar[edit]

I am admin on wesrten punjabi wiki (pnbwiki) . I created some Media wiki gadgets for punjabi i.e (https://pnb.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%85%DB%8C%DA%88%DB%8C%D8%A7_%D9%88%DA%A9%DB%8C:Gadget-PunjabiShabdDarustgi.js) it is for correcting punjabi words . Problem is that now I have not access in media wiki , so I can't made changes in this gadget , but we need changes and want update in this gadget , and also need editing some CSS/JS pages. So I Request for Interface administratorship for pnbwikipedia

Ruslik ask me:

Please, start a local request first.

I done a local consensus here[1]

Then Ruslik ask me:

Please, enable 2FA.
Yes I enable 2FA on google
But when I tried 2FA on Meta it shows Permission error and states that You do not have permission to enable two-factor authentication, for the following reason:

The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups: Administrators, Interface administrators, Bureaucrats, Transwiki importers, Oversighters, Check users. What should I do ? --Abbas dhothar (talk) 11:49, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

@Abbas dhothar: What it's showing when you go to this page? (Also we can talk in hindi if you want?) ‐‐1997kB (talk) 13:21, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

A doubt[edit]

Hello. I came across a user requesting account rename. When I checked the global account information, I noticed that it was blocked endlessly on a wiki by improper user name. Can renaming be done in this case? And thank you for supporting my request. --Editor D.S (talk)Meta-Wiki Patroller.png 14:44, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

Could you tell me why, apparently, this renaming did not work out? I sought answers to these questions in renaming policy, but not the found. --Editor D.S (talk)Meta-Wiki Patroller.png 15:13, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
Now it worked. It seems that the system took a while to make the change :) --Editor D.S (talk)Meta-Wiki Patroller.png 15:22, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
(Edit conflict.)@Editor D.S: Hey, If an account is blocked for username violation then renaming can be done. Those small wiki's doesn't have their own rename venue so such request come to global queue. And can you please elaborate on second question, that renaming seems to be successfully completed? Yeah sometimes it stuck on first go then after few minutes system retry the rename. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 15:27, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks for the answer. And yes, I can rephrase the answer. --Editor D.S (talk)Meta-Wiki Patroller.png 15:32, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

AntiSpoof[edit]

Hello 1997kB. I would like to know how to proceed in requests where AntiSpoof results in conflict, like this one. --Editor D.S (talk)Meta-Wiki Patroller.png 20:33, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

@Editor D.S: Hey, well anti-spoof requests need some more checks. In the above case it's just because of their old username so can be ignored. But in requests like this you need you check two things: is it triggered because of a previous rename on target account or due to similar accounts.
So to check the rename anti-spoof, you need to check out that is there any previous renames associated with target account by entering it here in Previous username field, and in case of similar accounts, check about whether the similar account is active or not or doesn't have edits more than 15 (because I follow ACC guidelines here) and if there are more than 1 similar account I reject the request.
Hope I explained well, feel free to ask if you have any questions. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 01:42, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
Okay. Thank you so much for the nice explanation, 1997kB :) --Editor D.S (talk)Meta-Wiki Patroller.png 02:17, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Keep my page[edit]

Hi sir Myself Ramesh Auti. I m from India. Can you help me for Wikipedia article my page creation. My upcoming feature film katibandh almost done. Also you can search myself on google other sites. Only this time create my bio. Next time I will contact you as you say. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rachit143 (talk) 14:28, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Rachit143, First of all please stop removing those tags from articles, it's considered disruptive and might lead a block to your account. Secondly a topic needs to be notable to have an article on Wikipedia, which you surely aren't. So please stop pushing that article. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:07, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

thanks 1997kb for your feedback[edit]

Can you tell me what kind of information I miss on Ramesh Auti article. Because all true references I added on page. I am sure this topic is notable as per global wiki page. Also you can check on Google. And tell me who will removing those tags from my article. I will definitely do what you say.Rachit143 (talk) 16:24, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

@Rachit143: Please let local administrators decide about the removal of those tags. And about the notability, I don't think that subject is notable enough as the sources you added aren't reliable, which is necessary for establishing notability. So my request is that please stop pushing that article and do some constructive work. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 17:27, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

About the filter conflict[edit]

Hi! Regarding the filter conflict when renaming users in ukwiki. I don't know how to solve the issue. Here is some info I gathered after some investigation:

  • The filter hasn't been changed since January 2, 2015
  • The filter looks for certain rights in user groups and global user groups
  • "Global renamer" for some reason is not a global user group (or doesn't display as such). It seems to be a local user group on Meta-wiki, but with a global scope, which is why it displays in no way on other local wikis (anymore?), except when you go to a user's SUL page (or I'm simply not aware of where to look for it).
  • The global renamers started to trigger the filter on December 14, 2018, and you weren't the only one, so that must be an approximate time when something somewhere had changed, and I neither know what it was, nor how to fix all this.

Btw, the filter triggers on renaming the existing pages, not the users and is used as an antivandal tool.

Do you have any info on this? Or should I forward this issue somewhere else? Maybe some discussion page for the global renamers or something? --Piramidion 22:19, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Hey Piramidion, Thanks for looking at the issue. Yeah global renamer is a local group on metawiki and you can only check at the SUL page or metawiki or here's a list of renamers: Template:List of global renamers. This started happening due to some changes in Abuse Filter extension and those were implemented on 14 December, you can find more about the issue at T212082. So for a temporary fix you can stop triggering it on rename edit summary or for each renamers (take the names from list). Let me know if you need more on this. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 02:54, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the information and suggestions. I've contacted some of the more tech-savvy admins in our wiki and hope that they'll be able to implement one of the temporary fixes you've suggested. If there's anything worth mentioning to it, I'll let you know.--Piramidion 04:38, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Username change request[edit]

username - change[edit]

Hi I have been ordered to change my user name - it has been flagged for advertisting, etc. I can and need to do this because I would still like to contribute to wikipedia. I understand the name may be too easily associated with the below website. The process is not simple, and i cannot navigate or get to the correct section to amend, so I am asking for help please. Why can you not include references/citations to articles that appear on the website I look after - http://www.asianculturevulture.com - we often get information which can/verify/correct wikipedia entries - because we speak to the source itself and they tell us point black... 'what is on wikipedia is wrong'. This is mostly factual information that can be verified and often appears in the stated article without any reference to the error on wikipedia. Can you please advise. Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Asianculturevulturebirdno1 (talk) 17:59, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Template:LinkStatus[edit]

Hi. With COI xwiki reports changing to {{LinkStatus|closed}} at the top of the last section is what changes the categorisation of these page. Without that change they stay in the open cat.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

If protection is required ...[edit]

If protection is required, then please let an admin know the level and the duration. If you want abuse filter tracking, then that can be arranged in lieu of protection, at least as a temporary measure.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:10, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Re: Hey[edit]

Hi, 1997kB. Yes, we do block people for inappropriate username even if they have no contributions, though in some circumstances our policy promotes more tolerance towards users whose home wiki differs from ours. For example, confusing usernames like ZJUn5XDLfqSve6yO are not allowed, but usually users coming from other projects are exempted. Beyond the fact that I am prone to unblock the user on it.wiki as soon as possible, how do we deal with this rename now that it has already gone through? The antispoof check should have prevented the renamer from accepting it due to unassigned character ☀, and a rename to "fiat lux" had to be prevented as well because the username "FiatLUX" is already in use. Do we ask the renamed user to file another request?--Sakretsu (talk) 20:41, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

User script to access other watchlists[edit]

Hi 1997kB,

If you remember, you participated in the 2019 Community Wishlist Survey, including the discussion for reviving "Crosswatch" to allow for cross-wiki watchlists (Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Watchlists/Revive Crosswatch tool).

I sent you this MassMessage because I wanted to let you know that I have made a user script to make accessing your watchlists on different wikis easier, since for now that wishlist item has not been actioned.

The way it works is that, on any wiki, when you look at your watchlist, there is a button labeled "CA" that takes you to the CentralAuth page for you. There, when looking at your own information, each link to a wiki ("meta.wikimedia.org", "www.wikidata.org", "de.wikipedia.org", etc.) is changed so that it links to your watchlist on that wiki.

If you are interested in using it, just add mw.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:DannyS712/Watchlist.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); to your global javascript page. This imports the code at m:User:DannyS712/Watchlist.js.

If you want to learn more, there is documentation for the script available at w:en:User:DannyS712/Watchlist. If you would like to discuss the script, talk to me at m:User talk:DannyS712.

Thanks, --05:50, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
