A single newline after a line that happens to end at the right-hand side of the edit box, is not visible. Therefore it is good that is has no effect.

A shorter code for <br>, or this code added to the edit toolbar, would be nice though.--Patrick 15:59, 24 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Alternatively, a newline acts as such, and shows up with some symbol. Two consecutive newlines could be displayed like now (i.e., not displayed, just applied), to avoid cluttering in the most common case. This would require a conversion of the existing wikitext, removing the single newlines, except in preformatted text.--Patrick 16:12, 24 Jul 2004 (UTC)
