User talk:Greeves/WMC bylaws

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Articles 1 and 2 are not required if Wikimedia Canada is to be an incorporated body. Such things would be part of the application for incorporation and would therefore already be in the corporate charter or letters patent. As an unincorporated association, on the other hand, they are perfectly fine. coldacid --65.92.127.36 07:16, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

Some comments on this draft of the bylaws:

  • Arcticle 5
    • Section 2: "shall be at least seven (7)" - I am not sure the use of an absolute number here is best, perhaps a relative number would be better? For example, if there are only 3 members or there are only 8, what happens? It might be better to express something like "but the total number of board members should not be more than 1/5 of the chapter's membership and when there are less than 10 members, the board is dissolved to solely president and secretary" or something similar.
    • Section 7: "interim representative" - Is this person going to fulfill the rest of the term? Will they be replaced during the next election or during the next meeting? I would also change the word "representative" to "board member".

Otherwise, they're looking good to me. Cbrown1023 talk 02:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are we going to check ID cards at the door? Why even make the pretense of stating that people must be legally residing in Canada to become members and vote? If there are less-than-legal immigrants living in Canada - why exclude them, even in the letter of the law? We're not the government, citizenship should make no difference to our membership. Simply being a citizen or residing in Canada should be enough to admit a member. Sherurcij 08:02, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
