Recent bans[edit]

Hi Guerillero, you recently blocked two users on outreach wiki, one of which I had unblocked. They both have 0 edits, I explained to TBloemink to not block people with 0 global edits. Different wikis have different guidelines about blocking, mostly only ban people after several warnings after they vandalize, and even then only for a day or a week the first time. Can you please revert the block, and refrain from blocking users until they make an edit. Thanks. Theo10011 (talk) 14:50, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey theo. They tripped the edit filter a few times and were trying to create a succession of spam pages. They would have made edits if not for the hyperactive filter. I will reverse those two blocks; however I will not reverse my three range blocks. It may be best to expand those to exclude account creation. cheers --Guerillero 15:51, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply Guerillero, I am not sure about the edit filters here but we didn't see a single global edit from them. I don't think Tbloemink mentioned the edit filters either. But I trust your judgement. If you are certain then maybe consider shorter blocks or warnings on their talk page so they know what the issue is, in case its a genuine contributor. I was wondering about this also - I noticed some new users who didn't have edits but were triggering the abuse filter due to inappropriate, off-topic pages - should we indef. block them, even though they technically haven't made any edits? They're probably spam bots. Logan Talk Contributions 21:32, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Rehashing my opinion based on discussion in the IRC channel - I think that indef. blocks should be reserved for users who override the abuse filter and actually create the off-topic, spammy pages. I think that's a good compromise. Not sure whether the currently blocked users need an unblock, though. Logan Talk Contributions 21:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
