I find the elements of the rainbow spectrum of radiance, the light shining amidst darkness, the world wide web of connections, and of a bright star rising all to be very appropriate.
The basic concept can be made more stylized, and even monochrome for some uses, or more photorealistic… but I believe that the rich symbolism is ideal for a project such as Wikipedia.
The original files of all designs were made in the drawing program Adobe Illustrator, and thus can be rendered in high quality at any resolution. Final tweaking was done in Adobe Photoshop.
I KNOW that these concepts can be rendered better, but hope that these give enough of the design concept to merit it's consideration. I am not a professional graphic artist… and I have fumbled miserably the few days trying to set down the design concepts that I have in my mind.
The focal point of the light of Truth with an encircling rainbow, evoking how Knowledge radiates a broad spectrum of diversity… extending beyond even the visible colors.
In the largest logos a mountain valley is formed to evoke a W, and also somewhat evokes an open book from which arises the light of Knowledge. There is a web of connectedness filling the sky behind the light.
For those who wish color there is an full spectrum of color presented in a very striking manner, and to those who do not, in most of the designs I have presented, there is not an overwhelming amount of it, and their could be monochrome renditions made as well.
Variations with blue sky rather than black exist, and more could be made.
