Norwegian editathon for Indians
[edit]Hello!
I have tried reach the position of top contributor in the editation, but, sadly I feel sad that while I have to painstakingly be part of a daylong commitment to keep up with other contributors, I must admit that I am a bit surprised to see some contributors who only start their work in the evening and within a short time manage to accumulate 2000+ points. I wonder if this process is assisted by bot technology or some other automated tool. Whatever the case may be, I feel that further participation might not be as productive for me. Therefore, I have decided to withdraw from this point.
Sadly, I also find lamentable the delayed responses for the event organizers. Even interesting is the approach of Norwegian contributors to the India-editathon - forerunner and precursor of our editathon, which is sheepishly comparable to our highly enthusiastic and overzealous contributions. Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki
[edit]Greetings!
The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.
This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.
We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.
Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.
Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.

- Evaluation, Impact, and Data Storytelling – Learn to measure, analyse, and narrate the impact of Wikimedia initiatives through hands-on labs and peer feedback.

- Apply here: Expression of Interest form
- Deadline to apply (extended): 26 August 2025
- Event Dates: 10-12 October 2025
Note: If you are unsure about which track to choose, please still submit your application by answering the questions thoroughly. Our team will review it and assign you to the most suitable track. If you are not comfortable applying directly on Meta, you may send your proposal (using the Meta template and with a valid reason) to nitesh@research.iiit.ac.in. If selected, the OKI team will publish it on Meta on your behalf.
