As for Wikipedia's welcoming comments and feedback on the draft Annual Plan for FY18-19 in your website: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_Annual_Plan/2018-2019/Draft, I am very delightful to provide my suggestions to help it to achieve more great accomplishment globally & locally, including in my homeland market, the mainland of China.

Firstly, I'd like to emphasis I greatly appreciate Wikipedia's achievements up to now & I am the loyally & much heavy using reader of it; I almost takes 30% of my working time to use Wikipedia & I have sent the several business collaborative proposals^(2) to you. I LOVE it so much to hope it could be more & more flourishing.

On the other hand, as a business people however I think you need the comments that should be never only in complimentary but those really helpful. Meanwhile, all of information on your business I could provide my insights are very limited only based on the contents openly released in the website of Wikipedia around the above links; therefore I assumed you would not mind my frank & quick suggestions as follows & all of logical & business judgment on my suggestions I would like to discuss with you in details, together with more board scope of opportunities between us, in the "Wikimania 2018" in this July in the Cape Town, which I already registered according to the directions with my proposal if I could honorably be enrolled in:

1. Overall impression:

  • a) The great achievements Wikipedia made by today does not mean your business, even which is an non-profit one for the public well-being, does not have any risk in its always being SUSTAINABLE^(3) if you are not aware that it is already a time that you should make a turn in the way your running it.
  • b) You are already in an excellent weight in the market in accumulation of your past performance, but you should be more clear in your mind about whether your strengths are irreplaceable, & how you can always keep them^(4), on your mission of providing "a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge" in term of your way in "knowledge as service" & "knowledge equity" based on the competitions in the market.
  • c) It seemed the career background of your staffs are mainly in the media & technology fields, therefore, it seemed relatively weak in running the business in both long-term strategy defined & short-term tactics how to keep approaching your long-term objectives step by step.

2. Detailed for your plan for FY18-19:

  • a) On your defined 3 main initiatives, my suggestions are including but not limited^(5) as follows:
    • i. "Evolve our systems and structures", its main direction is right, but its achieved way should focus on collaboration with resources from the board scope of other qualified organizations; you focus mainly on your irreplaceable strengths.
    • ii. "Grow new contributors and content"; this field should change the detailed implementing focuses on how to improve the quality of valid & reliable contents, to better respond the users' demand; as an user by myself, I could give your more valuable index on its performance.
    • iii. "Increase our reach", this one should totally change into, make transition to a new way to run your business, I would not talk too much until we could in a face-to-face meeting on the substantial collaboration.
  • b) On you budget plan:
    • i. The way you make plan seemed only based on the one in last year with a routinely expectation in growth; it lack of business indicators for its accountability. Even though it is difficult for the non-profit business for the public well-being; it must keep improve on it; since we promote the power in KNOWLEDGE we should better utilize it by ourselves in our business practice.
    • ii. The distribution structure of your budget seemed too simple & it with much big proportion in "Programmatic" seemed made little sense.

At last, for I could have more information on the way of your business running & then I could make my insightful suggestions for you in Cape Town in this July; may I request again to attend the "ESEAP Conference 2018 of Wikipedia" in this May only as an observer with my self investment on its expense. Please understand my request to attend the "ESEAP Conference 2018 of Wikipedia" is only for better preparing that I could contribute more value for you further.

I am sorry I could not talk too much unless I could make sure it could be responsive & reflective. I will send this proposal to the email addresses(business@wikimedia.org) as I already contact with Wikipedia before in pdf format.
