Expensive storage may limit archiving ability
[edit]'I've just heard on the news that current May 2026 storage hardware scarcity and rising costs due to AI may endanger the ability of sites like Internet Archive and Wikimedia to add data. I don't know if this is feasible, but could a program be created to migrate data from your system that hasn't been accessed in a certain amount of time, offline to tape archival storage. Users who wanted to access it could get a popup explaining there will be a time lag and explain why. I don't know the detailed structure of your organization so I don't know if this would be feasible, but it could cut operating costs.
