You have blocked an IP range and I am affected
[edit]Hello MdsShakil, when I am trying to edit Wikidata or the english Wikipedia, I get the message:
"The IP address or range 170.85.2.0/24 has been globally blocked by MdsShakil for the following reason(s): Open proxy: See the help page if you are affected"
I cannot see why this IP range was blocked, but I am not a vandal. I am very active in German Wikipedia, have written 1300 articles and have an edit count of 130,000 without ever been blocked. - I, too am impacted. It used to only impact logged out editing on enwiki, but seems to be impacting logged in edits as well now. I wonder what changed, because the global rangeblock log shows it was put in place in october. ill try and get an ip block exemption, however. Aunva6 (talk) 21:08, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Aunva6, Schotterebene: Your IP has been blocked because it is part of a proxy network. Please turn off the proxy, and you will be able to edit. If you believe you have a valid reason to use one, please apply for a global IP block exemption at SRGP. —MdsShakil (talk) 03:42, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- I am in the same situation, I use a corporate laptop with Zscaler application and I cannot disable it. My IP is visibly owned by Zscaler; I don't understand what does it make a "open proxy". I opened a procedure of appeal on UTRS 3, it was denied and I was redirected to ask for a local exception, but local Wikipedia procedure requires to edit a Wikipedia page to request the exception, which I cannot do as I am blocked...--Marcel Bergeret (talk) 12:51, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Marcel Bergeret You were redirected to the local wiki because you only edited itwiki. Requesting an IP block exemption only via on-wiki edits while you are blocked does not make any sense, there should be other ways as well. I have added global IP block exemption to your account for one week. You can now edit and request a local IP block exemption. —MdsShakil (talk) 13:48, 10 April 2026 (UTC)

- @Marcel Bergeret You can learn about proxies here. We usually use ProxyCheck.io and Spour to determine whether a network is a proxy. —MdsShakil (talk) 11:28, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
