VGLUG - Wikimedia Hackathon 2022

[edit]A free hackathon event was conducted by VGLUG, Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, India for the following dates from May 20, 2022 - May 22, 2022. Event was held at Villupuram for the above mentioned dates and mainly focusing on Wikimedia projects and its related project tools design, apps, plugin creation and existing project feature development by using open source softwares. It is open for all the interested participants willing to showcase their talents.

Event Details:
[edit]On the Zeroth Day
[edit]We have conducted sessions which cover basic Introduction to Wikimedia, Introduction to Participants followed by providing Refreshments drinks to all the coordinators and participants. Post introduction we have started basic knowledge sharing on mediawiki API. Deep discussion on Wikimedia feature development works along with Wikimedia developer account creation with respective event participants. Arrangements for the main day event was initiated on the zeroth day which involves manual installation of MediaWiki local development environment. By End of the Day, Q&A session was conducted to get clarified on Hackathon related queries.
On the First Day
[edit]A Day started with introduction on Wikimedia projects and existing tools followed by main Wikimedia hackathon allowing participants to continue for the bug hunting/fixing challenges until the team split to be confirmed. Team splitted based on the programming language and interest. Tech talks related to the Hackathon were provided to all the existing participants and new participants added on the first day. Tech talks involve Wikimedia API, Wikimedia Projects Use case, Common.js, etc,. Thanks giving on the event closure for the First Hackathon Day along with the day summary.
On the Last Day
[edit]Last event day initiated with the standup discussion over first day effort and Q&A session conducted on the previous day effort on the hackathon to start with better understanding on each team status. Hackathon continued without any concerns to showcase their work with team effort. Post Hackathon completion, Wikimedia future contribution and plans were discussed briefly on involving more participants in the future events. Event closure speech provided by the coordinators on appreciation of participation towards Wikimedia Hackathon. By end of the day, Our project was showcased successfully in Global Hackathon via online.

[edit]- Quick-Wiktionary - While select the word from browser, It helps to get meaning of the word from wiktionary.
- SpotWikiEdit - User can edit the wiki content directly by selecting. User can select the word need to edit. It will prompt for replacing string. Once replacing string given, it will get edited on the page.
- Bulk Wiki Downloader - Bulk download of media files from Wikimedia commons category.
- Bulk Wiktionary Creator - It helps to create a bulk of words with meaning in Wikitionary.
